I 'heart' Sfogliatelle

I apologize for my hiatus these past few days. I've been busy enjoying the sun and time with Jeff. It's hard to believe that in a few months I won't be seeing him everyday. We have our internships to think about. He will be in Durham and I will be in Asheville, so we will be about 5 hours away from each other for 9 months. But ok, this really could be worse. At least that's what I keep telling myself. I mean we could be in different countries or across-the US. In which case that would be difficult. But I know us, we have been through some difficulties and I think we can do this :)

Anyway, back to our trip to CT.

For those of you who have never been to a real Italian bakery, especially one up north, you are soo missing out. Add this simple to-do to your bucket list :)

We were in New Haven, debating about ordering a pizza to-go when suddenly, Jeff had the idea to head over to the near by bakery.
One of the cool things about this place, is that it's on the same
street as Pepe's Pizzara and Sally's pizzara.
Just let your mouth water.
Real cannolis
Mine, all mine!!!!
They look like this and have a creamy yet doughy, orange-like filling
I was soo happy :))))
Jeff's pastry.
Brandy-stone fruited center.
I think he likes it.
Yep, definite facebook 'like'!!!
A funny story about this place.
So when we first got to this neighborhood, there was
only one guy waiting for the place to open.
He was sitting in a fold-out chair. We had 15 minutes until the place opened.
So we went to get pastries.
When we got back, the line looked a little something like this:
Ughhhh!!! When the place finally opened, it filled up really quick.
We could have waited the hour and a half to get in but opted for something closer
to Jeff's parent's house.

I was in an Italian neighborhood)

Neighborhood Foraging and other wonders

Well, it's good to be back at work!! I got in at 11 this morning and got out surprisingly early :) Before I work I did to my Saturday routine of going to the Farmer's Market and grabbing some breakfast at City Lights Cafe.

But, looking back at our trip. I'll be telling the majority of it in pictures because tiredness is setting in.

Dandelion leaf salad.
Add a little Cherry Vinegar
Salad...good
I keep seeing these Luna bars on many blogs.
After having one I see why.
Jeff's favorite bread in all of CT.
I have never been in a Carvel before..not bad but not as good as gelato :)
Louis Lunch: The first hamburger joint ever in the states and it's located in New Haven!
The menu is so simple...
hamburger or cheese, chips or potato salad?
Drink?
Easy
The devises to grill the burgers
More than likely, these are probably as old as the building itself.
I don't drink soda but when we go up north, this is what I get.
Foxon birch beer.

Leaving for CT plus the Arrival

Still recapping our recent trip. So the day we left for CT was a little bit hectic. To be truthful, I'm always on edge the day I'm getting on a plane. I'm afraid of either missing the plane or the flight getting canceled. Both of these things have happened to me in the past and no, it's not fun :(

So here's what the morning looked like.
A non-fat cafe latte to start plus Jeff's cup of pure black coffee, to be fully wired for the day.
A starbucks breakfast sandwich to join the coffee.
It was a cheese and spinach sandwich.
Not bad, but I think I'll pick out something different next time.
No artifical crap..hmmm
We stopped by the mall to kill time.
I'm debating if this shirt should be mine.
After 2 and a half hours on the plane we make our first restaurant stop.
This is Salute, where Jeff's best buddy, Vito, works as a Sous Chef.
We start off with some garlic bread.
Vito said we will never guess what's in it.
Ohh it was good :)
I ordered the Rose Tortellini.
So good and creamy.
You can't get Italian food like this in North Carolina.
Parmesan? Ohh of course :)
Jeff's pasta.
It was good but ohh mine was soo much better.
Jeff's mom's Meatball salad.
An odd combination but again really good :)

Hurray!!! After a nice little week long get away, we are finally back. The laundry, dishes, and unpacking have already commenced, now for a recap. I will probably space out our trip throughout the week. So to start off, the packing and road trip process.

We left on Thursday for Charlotte.

Yes, I have now learned the art if packing just a backpack with very few items. While I had to do laundry frequently, it was well worth it. Here's where I found my packing advise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZK4yckDnVU

Jeff and I have traveled a lot during our courtship, we usually alternate who drives and who takes care of overnight accommodations. So since I drove, Jeff had to take care of the latter.

We took a little detour on the way to Charlotte.
We kept seeing signs for Rock House Vineyards, so we decided to check it out.
And go in for a wine tasting :)
The property was beautiful!
The selection, wasn't half bad either.
The owner of the vineyard got this aroma poster in Chile.
I know they make an English version.
I'll be looking for it online.
If anyone finds it before I do, please fill me in!!
