Farmer's Market :)

Every Saturday Morning, Sylva has our local farmer's market open to the public. I needed to pick up a few essentials. Here's what my morning looked like:
 Coffee :)
Awesome sign made by my friend Austin :)
A few of the stands....
There's a new stand this season, this woman and her boyfriend are selling homemade breads and baklava. He's a baklava specialist. Here is his web address:www.yorukdelights.com

So many choices :)
Gotta pay some homage to my friend Curt :)
As you can see Curt loves his trout ;-P He has his own farm in Cullowhee plus he and I were in the same Nutrition classes!  You can find Avant Garden on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=85622415386 and if you want to order some trout: his email: cccollins2@catamount.wcu.edu
I tried some of their orange/cranberry bread...sooo good!
Found some shittakes for future omelet makings!
A few of my goodies!

Yep, the eggs still got dirt/grime/chicken s***. Freshness :)
After my shopping, I stopped by this new place :)
It has some sentimental value because it used to be Spring Street Cafe, a place I worked at last summer.
I needed a little snack plus the crepes are amazing!
Until next Saturday :) Have a great day everyone!

A crazy idea

I have decided to create this blog. It's another one of my crazy/random/will I really do this, ideas. I came up with the name "Hungry Servant" because I have worked a variety of jobs as a waitress in the Western Carolina area. I always thought that if I ever wrote a book, it would have a title like this.

Currently, I'm a grad student in the mountains of North Carolina, pursuing a masters degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. I study nutrition because simply, I freakin love food!! I mean why else would I work in the food service industry? Sure the hours are crazy, the customers can be ungrateful (but not all the time), and it can be tiring. But work like this has it's perks: select free food (YAYA!!!), cocktail skills, friends (double YAYA!!) and potential way to make connections for the real world...if lucky that is!!

After this summer I will be starting a new chapter, after living in the mountains of Sylva/Cullowhee for six years, I will be moving to Asheville! Sure it's only 45 minutes away but in all, I hope for the best. I am moving because I will be starting my Dietetic Internship come August! If all goes well then one day I can become a registered dietitian!

A few more things about life that will be included in pictures:
-As I said "I freakin love food!" and that is one of the reasons I date Jeff :) We've been together close to three years now!! I never thought I would meet anyone like him, I like him a lot (in my dork sounding voice)!

(Waiting in the airport for Connecticut)

-I love traveling! I want to backpack through Europe and ohh hell, the entire world one of these days :)
Here are a few of the places I've been:
(One of my favorite memories is meeting up with my friend Noelle while she was studying abroad in Ireland! We went to Galway, Dublin and London while I was there!)

I have a few older pictures on my other computer, Jeff and I will be going to New York in May so more pictures will appear!

-Running: A few of my really good friends and I started 5K Training this year. We've already competed in 2 5Ks and let me tell you it's surprisingly fun! I think I might want to start half marathon training...again crazy idea alert!!
This is after the Full Spectrum Farms 5K.

-Nutrition,Cooking and restaurant food:
Like I said I've worked in the food service industry and so has Jeff. So most of our conversations are focused around food. One thing I would like to accomplish with this blog is to do some photography of the food we make and eat out.

-Sylva/Cullowhee:
I did my undergrad work at Western Carolina University and now masters work as well! I love this place more than I ever thought possible. While living in a small town such as this, we rely heavily on tourists. I've worked in two wonderful restaurants in Sylva that have both suffered from the economic crisis. For right now I think that most of my pictures will be taken in local restaurants as a means of advertising. It might work, you never know.
(Mountains plus downtown bookstore/Old Spring Street Cafe)
(Winter time, 2010/I get to see this from my apartment every morning!)
(This bridge connects to campus, love walking through this!)
